“The Loop Lab is a Swiss Army knife of creative problem-solving!” - Artplace America

The Loop Lab is a Cambridge-based nonprofit social enterprise committed to empowering women, young adults of color, and other underrepresented groups to join the creative economy through careers in the video and audio industry. We provide 19 weeks of free training in audio/video skills, professional development skills, and holistic work in areas like financial literacy, followed by a 200 hour paid internship with one of our partners.

We support that mission with our Media Production Studio that specializes in providing digital storytelling through video and audio services, with alumni working on a vast majority of these projects. Through key partnerships with local and national leaders like WBUR, Audible, The Boston Foundation, Livable Streets, T4MA, Mothers Out Front, Artplace America, and by creating equity work internally and externally for our trainees, we aim to empower these disenfranchised young adults.

In 2019 alone, we have provided 1000+ hours of work for alumni through our Media Production Studio.

Here’s some highlights from our upcoming and completed projects:

  • The Boston Foundation - TBF hired us to film over 40 artist performances from Live Arts Boston 2019 grantees. The grant funds new works, the majority by People of Color and New Americans. They include videos for the Asian American Playwright Collective, Oompa, MASARY Studios, Billy Dean Thomas, Madhvi Benkatesh, and Mehmet Ali Sanlikol.

  • Audible (an Amazon company) - We co-developed and produced An Audible Dialog with The Port, a four-episode series of pieces about the issues facing The Port community of Cambridge, how gentrification affects the community, and the cultures and families that make the community vibrant.

  • Livable Streets / Transportation for Massachusetts - We are developing 12 videos for a Fall 2019 advocacy campaign that demonstrates the impacts of congestion and vehicle related emissions on marginalized communities and communities of color in Massachusetts, as well as to demonstrate support for solutions that would reduce and reverse these impacts.

  • Cambridge Arts / The Foundry - We are developing and producing content for Jukebox, a public art installation at the Foundry building being re-developed in Cambridge. This project will consist of 100 pieces of community storytelling content, detailing the history of the Foundry building, the myriad immigrant communities of East Cambridge, and the important narratives of community members in their own words.

  • City of Cambridge, Arts Task Force - We produced 2 videos for the municipally-led Arts Task Force detailing their work around Public Art Funding, Artist Housing, and a Community Plan for Zoning. These projects take into account both the perspectives of the municipality and the artists and residents who hold art and culture dear.
